The Valdeorras geological substratum is mainly represented by shales and slates. Typically shallow with abundant stones, these warm soils enhance the alcohol content and complexity of the grapes, producing wines with a marked mineral character. 

The centuries-old sediment transported by the River Sil is combined with silt and clay, pushed down from the slopes by runoff water, resulting in soils that produce abundant harvests.

Present in the northern part of the region, theses soils have the characteristic of becoming spongy in winter to receive water and closing up in summer to retain it, producing quality wines with ageing potential.

This type of soil allows for gentle maturation: it radiates heat during the day and cools down earlier at night, which favours the production of more floral wines, not very mineral, with great varietal character.
